SAVING STORIES IS MY PASSION.
I’m Carla, a personal historian. I help people transform stories from their lives into heirloom books.
I record your memories in a series of one-on-one conversations, shape your words into a narrative of your life, and then create a lasting keepsake of your choice. Whether it’s a book, booklet or legacy letter, this beautiful memento may be one of the most meaningful things you share with the people in your life.
I LOVE HELPING PEOPLE TELL THEIR STORIES.
Over the last two decades, I’ve had the pleasure of helping dozens of individuals document and write their life stories. I’ve managed community history projects, traveled abroad to record the experiences of Americans living in other cultures, helped Peace Corps volunteers write their life-changing stories of service, and much more.
As a seasoned editor and published writer, with an MA from Johns Hopkins University and a BA from UC Berkeley, I savor the unique process of helping people create their own personal histories and lasting legacies for their family and friends.
My curiosity about people and desire to tell their stories began early. As a child I was drawn to my grandmother, who left her village in China at age 21. She came to California, where she raised nine children and established a family business. In 1998 I transformed her memories into a keepsake book, which has become a family treasure. Decades later, the process of helping people share their life stories continues to enrich my life.
I’m based in the Bay Area and available for projects in the Bay Area and beyond. Zoom interviews can take place anywhere. Send me an email or give me a call if you want to learn more about how to make a singular book or another printed keepsake documenting your personal history.
